(MITCHELL) - A fire in the Town of Mitchell claimed one home and 2 dogs.

The fire claimed the 2nd Street home of Justin and Stephanie Hawkins, while they were gone.

Mitchell Fire Chief Tyler Duncan reports nobody was home at the time of the blaze and no one was injured during the fire or the process of putting it out.

Fire investigators from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, formerly the State Fire Marshal's Office, have not determined a cause of the fire as of yet, and are still investigating.

2 dogs were found dead in the rubble of the home. Reportedly, one pit bull was found in one of the bedrooms, and another in the basement.
