(AUSTIN) - State Police Sellersburg arrested an Alabama man Saturday for kidnapping a 2-year-old girl from Great Lakes, Illinois.

Shortly before 1:00 Saturday afternoon, state police issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Navea Foster from the Illinois naval town, stating she had allegedly been abducted by 23-year-old LaDerrick Thomas of Auburn, Alabama.

A local policeman from Austin, Indiana located Thomas' vehicle southbound on I-65 in Scott County and requested backup for a felony traffic stop.

State troopers and a Sellersburg police officer responded, making the stop shortly before the Kentucky state line.

Thomas initially refused to open the door, but eventually relented and the girl was recovered.

Navea Foster has been taken to the Indiana Department of Family and Cnildren until she can be safely transported to her family.

Thomas is in Clark County jail charged with an Indiana felony charge of resisting arrest, and an Illinois charge of kidnapping a minor.
