Paperwork Error Could Lessen Charges Against Bus Driver

(BROWNSTOWN) - A paperwork error by a prosecutor may mean lesser charges against a school bus driver accused of being drunk while transporting 13 high school cheerleaders and their coach.
If a judge agrees at a hearing Thursday, the mistakes could reduce Sylvia Cooke's maximum possible sentence from three years to one year.
Cooke resigned from her job with the New Albany-Floyd County Schools following her arrest September 1st. A state trooper arrested Cooke at a gas station along Interstate 65 near Uniontown, about 40 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.
Jackson County Prosecutor Richard Poynter says his predecessor, Steve Pierson, had made a mistake in writing up the felony charge.
