Judge: Sniper's Statements Not Admissible In Court
(BROWNSTOWN) - The judge presiding over the Interstate-65 sniper case in Jackson County has ruled several statements made by the alleged shooter are inadmissible in court.
Jackson Circuit Court Judge William Vance said statements made by 18-year-old Zachariah Blanton to police were inadmissible because his legal guardian, his grandfather, was in custody when he gave officers permission to interview his grandson.
Blanton is accused of shooting and killing 40-year-old Jerry Ross of New Albany in 2006 as he was driving along I-65 in Jackson County, and of also shooting and injuring another Iowa driver, from his perch atop an overpass near Seymour.
Blanton is scheduled to go on trial October 31st for charges of murder, attempted murder and criminal recklessness.
