(MARTINSVILLE) - A convicted sex offender is asking a judge to allow him to move back into the home where he grew up, located near a school.

State law prohibits sex offenders from living within one-thousand feet of a school -- and the man who is identified only as ``John Doe'' in Morgan County court documents wants that order lifted so he can move back to his home.

Special Judge Stephanie Lemay-Luken of Hendricks Superior Court last week granted Doe's request to be examined by two psychiatrists to determine if he is a threat to children.

A state law that took effect in July allows offenders to ask the court to consider whether they still should be considered an offender against children beginning 10 years after their release from prison.
