(BEDFORD) - An Orleans man was taken in by Lawrence county sheriffs on an outstanding warrant after he rear ended a woman’s car because he was distracted by his cell phone.

Bedford police report 21-year-old Brandon Hackney was traveling southbound on SR-37 behind 42-year-old Tammie May when they approached the traffic light at SR-54.

Both Hackney and May were in the left lane, alongside another woman who was in the right lane. The light was red and, as they approached, Hackney's cell rang, he checked it out, but when he looked back up, realized it was too late to stop.

Hackney plowed into the rear end of May and almost glanced into the woman in the other lane.

When police arrived, they realized Hackney was wanted on a warrant for prescription fraud out of another county and was taken into custody.
