Orange County Sheriff Concerned With Accident Increase
(ORANGE COUNTY) - The Orange County sheriff’s department is concerned about a drastic increase in traffic accidents in the county.
According to Maj. Bill Fullington's report, traffic accidents worked by Orange County personnel from January to August 2005 was 136. This year, they have worked more than 220 in the same period, making for a 64% increase.
Orange County Sheriff Richard Dixon says the increase can only be partially attributed to an increase in out-of-town traffic, but more due to locals traveling unfamiliar side roads.
Sheriff Dixon urges drivers to use common sense when on the roads, because, as he says, if the current rate continues, the number could pass 420 by year's end.
