(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation officers are offering early advice for hunters that are planning on using elevated tree stands this season.

Conservation officers say falls from tree stands are the most common type of hunting accident. Indiana Conservation officer Mark Farmer recommends making sure you follow instructions when installing a tree stand, choosing only healthy, living rough bark trees such as oaks, and to never put all your weight on a single branch.

Farmer also says don't fall asleep in your stand, as this is a very common cause of falling accidents.
