(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man is being held on battery charges for attacking an 18-year-old woman with a samurai sword.

Bloomington police say 26-year-old Ashunti Taylor was in a dispute with the victim, who had given her dog to a woman living with him, when things got heated.

The victim allegedly argued with Taylor over the treatment of the dog and then tried to push past him to leave the residence. Taylor refused to move and, according to police, slapped the victim in the face, which was returned by the victim with a punch. Taylor left the room and returned with a samurai's sword and took a swipe at the victim and missed.

When she began to leave, he allegedly took another swing, giving her a slash on her buttocks about 8 to 9 inches long and about 2 inches wide.

The victim received treatment at the hospital; Taylor was taken in by police on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon.
