(BEDFORD) - This past weekend was not a good one to be out drinking and driving in Southern Indiana.

Bedford police arrested at least three people for either operating a vehicle while intoxicated, or for public intoxication. 34-year-old Julia Kirk of Bedford, and 52-year-old James Elliott of Shoals, Indiana were both pulled over and arrested for drunken driving at the intersection of 5th St. and N St..

This comes on the heels of a major effort by the Indiana State Police to hunt down drunk drivers and arrest them. In a saturation patrol near Terre Haute, four people were arrested for driving drunk and related charges in a matter of five hours Friday night going into Saturday morning.

The Indiana State Police has said the saturation patrols will continue until at least September 9th, while local police departments and sheriff's offices make their own efforts.
