Search Warrant Reveals More Details In Hawkins Case

(BEDFORD) - A newly unsealed search warrant shows that former Lawrence County Sheriff Kent Hawkins kept 183 guns in his home improperly.
The search warrant also shows that Hawkins had firearm accessories, arrows, knives and a videotape of a crime scene in his rural home.
Hawkins has been charged with forgery and two counts of official misconduct. Hawkins is accused of forging signatures of other officers on weapon "buyback" forms in 2005. Hawkins has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Another former Lawrence County Sheriff's officer has been charged in the case. John Potter is also accused of forging signatures on federal gun buyback documents.
The unsealed warrant shows that officers found 18 firearms and a shotgun barrel at Potter's home. Potter also pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
It was also discovered that Hawkins apparently failed to hand over firearms, a snowplow for an all-terrain vehicle, a camera and a gun boot to newly elected sheriff Sam Craig after leaving office in January.
