(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Animal Control was called to remove several dogs and cats that had been left behind by former renters.

Officials say the animals were found in the home in the 1200 block of 9th Street. Police were called in to assist with the removal of the ex-pets.

Three dogs and four cats were found inside the residence. One dog was extremely malnourished, while a second animal was unresponsive.

All were taken to the Lawrence County Humane Society. Bedford Police Detectives are looking for the former tenants and are following up on information given to them. The investigation continues.
