(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man has been arrested for battery after he called police on a domestic dispute.

59-year-old Walter Tolbert called police saying he needed an ambulance. Apparently Tolbert and his wife had been involved an argument. Tolbert claimed that his wife hit him with a hammer and he then knocked her to the floor.

Tolbert's wife refused treatment when ambulance personnel arrived on the scene.

Police found abrasions to the woman's arms and a cut to her hand and red marks on her neck.

Tolbert was arrested on domestic battery and taken to the Lawrence County jail.
