(BEDFORD) - On the very first day of opening, patrons of Bedford’s John Lowery Pool began to complain of itching.

On Saturday, the pool opened for the 2007 season and planned to close at 6:00PM. But around 3:15PM, people began experiencing rashes.

Pool Manager Missy Neff decided to close the pool to investigate the problem. Neff says it was discovered that the pool's grates have a coat of fiberglass and it was wearing off in the water.

Neff says they have removed the grates and are repainting them. In the meantime, the pool is open but swimmers will only be allowed in the pool by ladder or by the jumping boards.
