The Mushroom Hunt Is On

(SPENCER) - The great hunt is on… for the largest… heaviest… mushroom.
The 27th Annual Morel Mushroom Contest is underway in Spencer. The hunter who brings in the heaviest mushroom... with all dirt removed from the base... will win 150 dollars.
Only gray and yellow sponge morel mushrooms are eligible. Second, third and fourth place prizes are also awarded.
The contest is sponsored by the Spencer Evening World and entries must be taken to the newspaper office to be weighed.
Last year's winner logged a 14 inch tall morel that weighed 21 ounces.
