(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Council members are looking into finding money for the Rural Transit Service.

County Council President Ross Jean says the board is responsible for the bottom line and is unsure if they can hand out any money until next year. Rural Transit is asking for $20,000, however, Jean says in years past they have given the service only $3,000 annually.

Studies show the service was transporting about 30,000 passengers yearly and charging 50 cents. A suggestion was to raise the charge to a dollar. This would add $15,000 to the annual budget which is estimated at around $80,000 to $100,000. The request died for a lack of a motion.
