(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Urban Enterprise Association has recognized one of their own.

Natasha Johns was officially presented the Women of Promise Torchbearers Award by BUEA President Paul Patton.

This is the third year the Torchbearers Award has been given by the Indiana Commission for Women's Salute to Women. The award is given to those who have overcome obstacles and made Indiana a better place to live.

Johns was instrumental in raising over $60,000 last year to build a new playground for the students at the Englewood Elementary School on Washington Avenue in Bedford. Johns says she has accepted another project to construct a new playground near Edgewood on 16th Street in Bedford.
