(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell School Board has denied the request of an 8th grader the opportunity to swim with the BNL Swim team.

In last night's meeting Woody and Brenda Wagoner, the parents of 8th grader Katlyn Wagoner, asked the board to allow her swim at BNL because of her interest in the sport. Katlyn's parents told the board that Katlyn would represent Mitchell in any swim meet and the school would not be responsible for any expenses. There was some concern about liability, but waivers could be signed. Woody and Brenda told the board the Indiana High School Athletic Association did provide allowances for such a situation.

After some discussion, a motion was made by board member Kelly Wade to allow Katlyn to participate, but no one seconded the motion. None of the other board members offered a reason for the decline.
