Monroe County Schools Change Lice Policy
(BLOOMINGTON) - Some Bloomington parents are upset over a new rule established by the Monroe County Community School Corporation.
School officials say children with nits, the eggs laid by lice, should not be kept home from school because they're costing kids too many days away from the classroom.
The corporation's previous policy required students to stay home until no trace of the scalp-dwelling insects was present.
School spokesman Mike Shipman says 178 students missed at least one day last year because of lice.
