(MARTINSVILLE) - Perjury charges against a cousin of John R. Myers have been dropped by Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega.

Sonnega says Alisha Evans lied when she talked about people other than Myers who may have been connected to the murder of Indiana University sophomore Jill Behrman.

Still, Sonnega concedes the testimony did not hinder a jury in convicting Myers of the crime.

Evans is currently in the Monroe County Jail following a probation violation. She told investigators she was with a group of people in a vehicle which hit Behrman as she rode her bike. That group, she said, took the woman's body and dumped it in a lake. When the lake was drained, no remains were found. It became clear Evans was lying when forensic evidence showed Behrman was killed by a shotgun blast to the head.
