(BEDFORD) - We now have an update on the accident that occurred east of Bedford yesterday afternoon.

According to the Lawrence County Police, the accident happened when 66-year-old Ronald Johnson, was eastbound on Hwy. 50 near Stove Road. For some unknown reason he veered left crossing the centerline and struck the rear of a Medora School Corporation bus, driven by Linda Downs, of Medora. His truck bounced off the bus missing one vehicle but hitting a Ford Ranger, driven by 30-year-old William Kehl, Jr., of Fortville, head-on. Kehl's vehicle was knocked over an embankment and came to rest on the passenger side. Johnson's auto came to rest on its passenger side as well. A fourth vehicle, driven by 62-year-old Ronald Wehrkamp, of Seymour, attempted to avoid the accident by applying his brakes. His vehicle skidded into the front end of the school bus.

Both Johnson and Kehl became trapped in their vehicles. Johnson was extricated by the Bedford Fire Department and was flown by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Kehl was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner John Serrill.
