(COLUMBUS) - Conservation officers say a hunter was wounded during an outing in Bartholomew County.
Twenty-two-year-old Ryan Smith was loading his shotgun when it discharged and sent a bullet through his foot. The bullet entered behind Smith's second toe, but doctors say amputation is unlikely.
Police say Smith has a protective order against him which is supposed to prevent him from owning firearms. In addition, Smith and his hunting partner Gregory Myers were hunting before legal hunting hours had begun for the day.
