(MITCHELL) - Despite one being thrown into a windshield, two teenagers suffered only minor injuries following an accident on Rariden Hill Road and Cassidy Lane northwest of Mitchell.

Seventeen-year-old Jessica New, of Bedford, failed to round a curve and hit the guard rail and then a tree. The force of the accident made her miss the airbag and hit the windshield. Her passenger, 17-year-old Jennifer Irwin, of Mitchell, suffered a contusion and bruise. She refused medical treatment.

New had minor bleeding to her head and was taken to Bloomington Hospital of Orange County for treatment. New had a blood alcohol level of point-zero-nine, one point above the limit. Lawrence County Police Sgt. Lonnie Johnson is investigating the accident.
