Shooting Reported In Loogootee

(LOOGOOTEE) - One person is dead, one severely injured following a possible rape in Loogootee.

Police say 39-year-old Roger Nicholson, of Loogootee, allegedly drove a woman, also of Loogootee, to Daviess County. Nicholson apparently had sexual relations with her and brought her back to Loogootee dropping her off at the Red Wing Trailer Park.

Later, police received a 911 call from the trailer park on a report of shots being fired. When they arrived they found 41-year-old Ronald Blackman shot to death. The woman's two small children witnessed the shooting. Police say Nicholson and Blackman were involved in a struggle. Allegedly, Nicholson shot Blackman with a .410 gauge shotgun. Nicholson ran from the scene. The children were not injured.

Nicholson was later found by police in a ditch. Several shots were fired and Nicholson was wounded. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. Later it was discovered that Nicholson shot himself in the shoulder and knee. He was transferred to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

The investigation is on-going and criminal charges are pending.
