Bedford City Council Denies Loan For New Fire Truck
(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Chief Bill Stigall spoke at the Bedford City Council meeting last night to convince the board to apply for a loan to pay for a new fire truck.
The truck holds a 100-foot ladder which would allow fire fighters to fight fires in nearly all of the tall buildings in Bedford. The cost of the truck is nearly $800,000.
After discussing where the money would come from to pay back the requested loan, board member Byron Buker made the motion to pass the ordinance, Jack May second the motion, but Mark Scherschel, Kelly Cobb and Brandy Hughes voted no.
Stigall has applied for a Homeland Security grant which could pay for most, if not all, of the cost of the fire truck. He is awaiting an answer from the agency.
