(BEDFORD) - The man who lost a son in the tornado outbreak in the summer of 1990 appeared before the Lawrence County Council yesterday morning to plead for a countywide weather siren system.
Tim Ray said Lawrence County could be the first county to have such a system to alert the citizens of impending weather. Ray said he fells it's not right for city residents to be alerted of severe weather and not county residents. Board Chairperson Jamie Craig Chenault thanked Ray for appearing before the board.
In other business, more details of the work to be done on the Broomsage Road Bridge were presented to the Lawrence County Council yesterday. Scott Minnich with DLZ said the state reduced the amount of money to be spent on the bridge. Original estimates hovered around $63,000. The state says they won't go higher than $49,200. Lawrence County will be responsible for $3,000. Bid letting for the Broomsage Road Bridge will begin in the spring of next year.
And, Lawrence County Health Department Director Paul McBride asked the Lawrence County Commissioners for approval of fee increases including immunization charges. He said fee increases vary from as much as $5.00 to $10.00 and $1.00 to $2.00 depending on the type of medication. The board approved the increases.
