(MITCHELL) - A gathering of Mitchell residents was seated in front of the Mitchell City Council Thursday night arguing the point to raise fees for the water and sewer services.
Most of the complaints were on the huge 42% jump in the water and sewer rates. Dennis Otten with Bose, McKinney and Evans, LLP of Indianapolis explained the large increase to help get the city solvent during the next several years.
After everyone had a change to voice their opinion, the board voted to proceed with the rate increase. And additional vote was taken to study the water and sewer rates every two years to avoid another rate spike like this one.
Once implemented, Mitchell will receive an additional $300,000 to $400,000 each year.
