(SALEM) - Two Salem men have been arrested for cultivating nearly a quarter-of-a-million dollars worth of marijuana in Washington County.

Indiana State Police recently spotted several hundred well-tended marijuana plants growing in and around a soybean field. The plants were bent back to try and hide them.

After setting up electronic surveillance cameras, police decided to wait on the cultivators at the field. On Tuesday, two men showed up. Police immediately apprehended them, but found out they were there to steal some of the plants.

Police re-examed the surveillance tapes and were able to ascertain that 64-year-old Raymond Johnson and 29-year-old Brandon Johnson grew the illegal crop. After questioning the two, police arrested them on cultivation and possession charges.

Police seized over 92 plants and hundreds more are going to be cut and taken into evidence. The men are incarcerated in the Washington County Jail awaiting their first court appearance.
