Terrorism 101
(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Bedford man who was among the Americans taken hostage in Iran in 1979 recalled his captivity at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis honoring POW’s and MIA’s.
Don Sharer told an audience of 150, some former prisoners of war, they share the common bond of having had their freedom stripped away, even if their treatment ranged from humane to sadistic.
In Tehran, Sharer says the American hostages were continually humiliated by what he sarcastically calls the Iranians' "fun and games," including frequent mock executions.
He calls the hostage crisis "Terrorism 101." He says it was the moment when terrorism became a major threat to America.
