Mitchell Persimmon Festival For The Weekend

(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Presbyterian Church will be sponsoring their Fish Fry this afternoon at the Main Food Tent at the Mitchell Persimmon Festival.

Carnival rides will again begin at 5:00PM and the Endless Summer band will perform on the Main Street Stage at 7:00PM.

Saturday is loaded with a full slate of activities with the Mitchell Masonic Lodge Pancake Breakfast beginning the day at 6:00AM. The Persimmon 5K Run and Walk and One Mile Fun Run will start at 7:00AM at the Mitchell High School lobby for registration. At 8:00AM the Tri-County Antique Tractor and Equipment Association Show will be held at the East Main Street Stage. The Antique and Classic Car Show will also be at 8:00AM, but has been moved to the library. Registration will be from 8:00AM to 10:30AM. The 5 mile Historic Walk will begin at 9:00AM. Meet at 6th and Main Streets. The Chili Cook-Off will be at 10:00AM, behind the Main Street City Park. The MHS Alumni Association will hold a visit and friendship event for all MHS Alumni at the Emerson Gym at 10:00AM. Also at 10:00AM and 11:30AM the Adzooks Puppets will perform on the Main Street Stage sponsored by Southern Indiana Pediatrics. And at 11:00AM the Chicken Barbeque Dinner will at the Main Food Tent, sponsored by the Mitchell Lions Club.

Afternoon activities at the Mitchell Persimmon Festival Saturday include the Pre-Parade Introductions at 1:00PM. The posting of the colors and the patriotic ceremony with local veterans will be held. Then at 2:00PM will be the Grand Parade, rain or shine. The parade will start at the Lehigh Field moving to Main Street to 7th Street, north on Warren, west to 8th and ends at Mitchell high School. Grand Marshall David Nolan invited everyone to come out and watch the many special attractions in this year's parade. At 4:00PM the Persimmon Festival Eating Contest will at the Main Street Stage. Sign up will be at 11:00AM. At 4:30PM the 2006 Persimmon Festival Award Presentations will be at the Main Street Stage. And at 8:00PM Saturday, country artist Buddy Jewell will perform on the Main Street Stage, sponsored by the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, C&M Conveyor and Duke Energy.
