(BEDFORD) - An accident on 16th Street and James Avenue in Bedford resulted in the arrest of a Mitchell man.

According to reports, 43-year-old Matthew Whiteface was traveling on James Avenue attempting to turn onto 16th Street. Nineteen-year-old Rachel Salazar, also of Mitchell, approached James Avenue in the left lane and did not see Whiteface pull out.

Bedford Regional Medical Center ambulance was called but both drivers refused treatment; however, Salazar was taken later complaining of abdominal pain.

Police discovered Whiteface had never held an operators license and had a suspended Indiana Learner's Permit that expired in 2001. He also had an outstanding warrant through Johnson County. He was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center. He was cited for failure to yield right-of-way.
