Lawrence Co. Humane Society Looks for More Funding
(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Humane Society has been looking for other ways to increase its operating budget since a couple of funding opportunities were removed.
The organization asked the City of Bedford to increase its donation from $20,000 to $30,000 for fiscal year 2007.
Lawrence County Humane Society Manager Shelly Johns represented Melissa Kusturin in yesterday's Board of Works and Safety meeting. Kusturin was unable to attend because of an eye injury.
It was decided that the increase was not possible since the city is strapped with its own budget.
The group is attempting other means to raise money including a free membership drive to Curves in Bedford, Mitchell, Bloomington and Paoli and their annual Shop-A-Thon. Purchase a coupon book from the White River Humane Society and receive buy-one, get-one free discounts, savings on golf and bowling games and even free car washes and tire rotations. Call Paula or Debbi at the White River Humane Society at 277-9760 for more details.
