Mitchell Group Signs "Divine Strake" Petition

(MITCHELL) - About 40 to 50 concerned citizens showed up at the Mitchell City Hall this morning.

A petition was passed around for those sign to block a "Divine Strake" test. The test is being considered by the Defense Department on Hwy 60 between Mitchell and Huron.

Mitchell Mayor Butch Chastain says the test has the potential to contaminate groundwater and cause health hazards.

Hoosiers Against Divine Strake David Keppel was present to urge those in attendance to call Senator Evan Bayh and Senator Richard. He says Evan Bayh can be reached at 202-224-5623, Lugar at 202-224-4814.

Democratic Candidate David Sanders had planned to appear at the rally, but bad weather prevented him from landed the plane in Bedford or Bloomington. He has rescheduled a gathering at the Mitchell City Hall on Wednesday at 10:00AM.
