(BEDFORD) - JKI Engineering president Charles Jones says work has begun on the renovation of the Milwaukee Depot located on north “I” street.
He, along with his partner Gary Kuehn, spoke to members of the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association in last night's meeting stating that decaying soffit has been torn off. The copper guttering has been removed with a portion of the tile roof taken off.
BUEA staff member Jamie Harris expressed concern about the copper guttering stating that he had talked with CLR Contractors about who the copper guttering belongs to. According to the contractors, the items belong to them, but Harris looked into state law and found that the contractors were right, up to a point, if the work is being done for a government body the materials then belong to them. Harris said he would further investigate the situation.
Meanwhile, Harris reported to the board that funding sources are still being sought to keep the organization going. A TIF District Tax Levy topped the list with Gaming Revenue Sharing and Industrial Development Funding included. County Economic Development Income Tax, or CEDIT, was also discussed. Funding will dry up in September if nothing is found.
