Department Of Health Cautions Eating Fish Caught Locally

(UNDATED) - The State Department of Health is cautioning citizens about eating fish from a few Southern Indiana waterways.

Officials say Clear Creek in Monroe County and Lawrence County's Salt Creek are both "group five waterways," meaning fish caught there are likely to be contaminated with high levels of toxins.

If you do want to catch and cook fish, it's advisable to cut away as much fat as possible, because chemicals called PCB's collect in fat. Also, larger species such as largemouth bass, carp and catfish are known to collect more chemicals than smaller varieties with less fat.
