Alliance Between Auto Companies Concerns UAW President
A potential alliance between General Motors, Nissan, and Renault SA has United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger concerned.
Nissan and Renault are both headed by Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn, who has clashed with the UAW in the past when the union failed to organize laborers at a Nissan factory in Tennessee. Although the alliance is far from becoming a reality, it brings to light the challenges faced by organized labor in an auto industry that is more global than ever.
GM employs more than 11,000 workers in Indianapolis, Bedford, Fort Wayne and Marion.
