2006 Lawrence County 4-H Fair Queen Chosen

(BEDFORD) - The 2006 Lawrence County 4-H Fair Queen contest was held in the Expo Hall at the fairgrounds Friday night.

Eighteen high school and college contestants vyed for the prestigious award. After a panel of three judges, including Indiana District Representative Peggy Welsh, judged the contest, winning as queen of the 2006 Lawrence County 4-H Fair is 19-year-old Haley Sowders. First runner up is 19-year-old Alyse Hill. Second runner up is 18-year-old Molly Dillman. Miss Congeniality is 19-year-old Kristan Lynch. The style award, a new category this year, went to 17-year-old Jordan Yates, the Directors Choice was given to 16-year-old Kayla Johnson, with Whitney Cornett winning a $400 Ivy Tech scholarship. Former Lawrence County Queen Amanda Jo Chestnut says she's happy her reign is over.

Meanwhile, the Horse and Pony Show was held over the weekend at the Lawrence County 4-H Fair. In the contest, show winners were, Leah Meyers, Julia Scherschel, Josie Barnes, Talesa Klug, Averi Hill, Sarah Lambrecht, Schuyler Lambrecht, Michael Hoskins, Megan Barnes and Matthew Brock. In the Showmanship, Halter and Versatility, show winners were Julia Scherschel, Casey Gillespie, Caleb Bailiff, Maryellen Norman, Lacy Waggoner, Jeremy Hayes, Bretta Jean, Amy Hardy, Kortni Burnette, Tana Tidd, Zachary Bailiff, Rachel Wynn, Tracy Yost, Olivia Scherschel, Chandler Nicholson, Allison Thompson, Zachery Sons, Leah Meyers, Brandy Bailiff and Ryan Otis. Congratulations to all the winners.

The Lawrence County 4-H Fair Pie Contest was held Saturday. Winning the top prize with her blackberry-raspberry pie was Mary Berry. Second place went to Ann Mullins with her rhubarb-strawberry pie. She also won third place with her cherry pie. All of the pies entered in the contest were auctioned off later at the show arena.

Activities today at the Lawrence County 4-H Fair include the 4-H Beef Market show at 9:00AM in the show arena. The Llama show will be held in the show arena at 1:00PM this afternoon. The 4-H Exhibit Hall will open at 6:00PM tonight to show off all the items 4-H members built, baked and created. Also at 6:00PM will be the Baby Contest in the Show Arena. It will begin with the ages 0 to 1-year-olds, ages 1 to 4-year-olds will follow around 7:00PM. Finishing out the day will by the Quad Races at the track beginning at 7:30PM.
