Midwife To Serve Probation
Last updated on Friday, June 16, 2006
(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington midwife has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of a newborn in Shelby County.
54-year-old Jennifer Williams will serve a year on probation. Prosecutors will drop a felony charge of practicing medicine without a license.
Authorities say Williams helped deliver a boy in the parsonage of first southern Baptist Church in Edinburgh last year, where the child's father was a pastor. Investigators said the newborn died as a result of pooled blood in the head and neonatal asphyxia.
