I.U. Research Discovers Investor Fraud

Last updated on Tuesday, June 20, 2006

(BLOOMINGTON) - Research conducted by an Indiana University scholar has begun a nationwide inquiry into investor fraud at U.S. companies.

Randall Heron and a colleague from the University of Iowa showed how firms were "backdating" stock option grants to help executives benefit from increases to a company's stock price.

The research has fueled a national debate over whether the practice is illegal.
