Bedford Woman Honored By Army For Helping Wounded
(BEDFORD) - Sgt. Charity Lewis, from Bedford, has been distinguished for her service to the United States Army.
She along with other soldiers and marines were attacked recently with an individual wearing a suicide vest with explosive devices attached to the vest.
After the explosion, without regard for her own safety, Sgt. Lewis helped transport five injured persons from the danger area exposing herself to small arms fire.
She helped with medical aid to those in need, including Iraqi civilians. Lewis has been serving in Iraq since July of 2005.
