(SEYMOUR) - A case of human West Nile virus in Jackson County, southwest of Seymour, has been confirmed.
The individual has been treated and released from an area hospital.
The Jackson County Health Department Environmentalist says that crews are surveying the area and treating it.
Officials stress that people should take precautions. Get rid of standing water; keep grass and shrubs trimmed; clean out your gutters; stay indoors from dusk to dawn; and use repellent with DEET.
At this time, there is no vaccine and no cure for West Nile virus.
