NLCS Board Meeting Recognizes Award Winners

(BEDFORD) - The North Lawrence Community Schools board of trustees met Thursday night.

In opening business, Mr. Snapp reported to the board textbooks that would be used for next year's school students. The list was not completed for all grades, however, first grade and middle school textbooks have been chosen and Mr. Snapp said the cost of the books went down. In other business, the North Lawrence Community Schools Food Wellness plan was presented to the board by several principles and teachers involved with the program.

Sports achievement awards were presented to several students during the board meeting. BNL senior Lauren Brim was presented with an All-Conference Athletics award. Also, BNL senior Seth Christenberry was given a similar All-Conference Athletics award. Middle school student Ross Murphy was recognized with his accomplishments in wrestling. It was noted he had an undefeated season this year. During last night's meeting, four students were given recognition after they went to San Hosea, California and attended the National Olympics Ideas Products competition. They were the only high school among the colleges that participated. They came in third overall with their presentation. Shaune Arrowsling, Anne Bullick, Cory Pink, and Nick Wiggins were recognized for their achievements. In other recognition, Fayetteville 5th grader Amanda Praire was presented with the Daughters of American Revolution award. All were praised for their accomplishments.

The board heard comment from a Bedford resident who was concerned about the joint services program. The program is designed to allow emotionally handicapped students to participate in class with other students. Jim Craig told the board he felt the group was too large to be adequately supervised. He gave examples of the handicapped student's harassing others without any type of discipline. Craig stated that his own children had been abused by the special children. The board told Craig they would look into the situation.
