(BEDFORD) - An accident on James Avenue destroyed a transformer located near Big O Tires and knocked out electricity to several restaurants and businesses along the road.

Seventy-two-year-old John Horton, of Bedford, was attempting to cross James Avenue by the Golden Corral Restaurant and drove into the path of 29-year-old Mitchell resident Kalena D. Jamison's vehicle.

Horton told police he did not see Jamison's vehicle. Jamison said she saw Horton auto but could not avoid the collision. Horton's vehicle hit the stainless steel transformer knocking out power to the street's businesses.

No one was injured in the crash. Horton was charged with failure to yield right-of-way.
