Local Girl Competes In Regional Spelling Bee

(LOUISVILLE) - Megan Cox, of Bedford, was asked to spell the word “bolsheviki” in the 13th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee held Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Cox, who won the 1340WBIW Spelling Bee last month, went on to compete in the Regional Competition Saturday.

She finished 14th in the fourth round with 65 students from 63 counties in Indiana and Kentucky vying for the top spot.

Winning for the fifth year in a row was John Tamplin who attends school in the Jefferson County Public School System.

Bolsheviki is a Russian word meaning extreme radicals or revolutionaries.
