(BLOOMINGTON) - The reports of what may be a large cat continue to move closer to Bloomington.

A couple living in rural Monroe County northwest of the city say two of their dogs have been mauled by a large animal in the last two weeks. Susan Pauly says one of the yellow labrador retrievers was found slashed to death in woods near her home. What's odd, she says, is that unlike attacks by dogs on one another, there were no injuries to the laborador's head.

Department of Natural Resources officers say it may be a pack of wild dogs or coyotes who are responsible for the latest attacks.

The report comes just a few weeks after another woman reports seeing a panther in her backyard, but was unable to photograph it because her camera's batteries were dead.
