DETROIT—In one of the largest departures of union workers, General Motors Corporation and the United Auto Workers are continuing talks on moving nearly 20,000 hourly employees.
The change would allow GM to absorb the flowback of thousands of idled UAW workers. The buyout includes restructuring the Delphi Corporation as well.
General Motors has Indiana plants in Bedford with nearly a thousand employees, also Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis and Marion.
