SHOALS—An early morning fire located about 3 miles southeast of Shoals killed six people burning them beyond recognition.

The Shoals Volunteer Fire Department attempted to squelch the residence fire when they discovered the two adults and four children. They were later identified as husband and wife Rodney and Elizabeth "Beth" Montgomery and children Austin, Arianna, Trenton and Jackson.

The adults and one child were found near a side door, the other three children were discovered in a front bedroom. The Martin County Coroner's office was called in. Investigators say the fire originated near a wood burning stove on the first floor.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department, Martin County Prosecutor's office and Indiana State Polcie continue to investigate the blaze.
