(CRANE) - An explosion injured three workers at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center Tuesday.

Col. Todd Smith, Commander of Crane Army Ammunition Activity says three workers were injured when at least one detonator blew up as it was being prepared for destruction.

Smith says one victim was taken to Bedford Regional Medical Center with minor injures. The two other victims were taken by ambulance to Bloomington Hospital with injuries to their faces and hands. Personnel at the Crane Medical Clinic discovered detonator fragments embedded in one victim's clothing and alerted Bloomington Hospital of the possibility of fragments on the other victims.

That news caused a temporary shutdown of the Bloomington Hospital Emergency room before an all-clear was given. Smith says none of the men's injuries are considered life-theatening but declined to release the names of the civilian contractors involved.
