"Die-In" Held In Bloomington

Last updated on Friday, March 17, 2006

(BLOOMINGTON) - One downtown Bloomington street was clogged by people protesting the war in Iraq.

More than 100 people staged what they called a "Die-In," with protestors laying in the street and others drawing chalk outlines around them. No one was arrested in the incident, which was deemed by police to be a peaceful endeavor.

Former Monroe County school teacher Deb Mayer addressed the masses and told them she feels she was fired for speaking about Middle East peace in her classroom. The group brought signs and issued several chants critical of the Bush Administration and its foreign policy, all the while exhorting leaders to remove all American troops from the region.
