Last updated on Friday, February 24, 2006

BEDFORD—The United Way of Lawrence County held their Community Matters Annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration last night at the Stonehenge Lodge.

Between 200 to 300 people attended enjoying a great meal of chicken, vegetable or roast beef.

United Way President Kevin Beasley announced his transfer of power to Times-Mail Managing Editor Mike Lewis. A large gavel was presented to Lewis.

NSWC Crane Commander Capt. Mark Welsh was the guest speaker who spoke about how Crane employees have contributed to the United Way. He said if every Crane employee gave only 1% of the income, the United Way of Lawrence County would receive $3-million.

Retiring and new board members were recognized during the evening's activities. United Way helps with contributions to many service organizations in the county.
